Differences Between Exynos 9810 and Snapdragon 845 In Samsung Galaxy S9

Like the previous Galaxy-line flagships, the Samsung Galaxy S9 comes in two variants using two versions of the System on Chip (SoC), one is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, and the other is Exynos 9810. It varies according to the sales area. In the United States and China, consumers will receive the Qualcomm version. In other areas that are difficult to count, the Samsung S9 uses its own Exynos 9810 chipset. In most cases, the differences between these two processors are small, but on the Galaxy S9, there seems to be a lot of differences.

Generally, Samsung’s Exynos processor makes its mobile phones better in terms of performance and battery life. It’s related to the fact that Samsung directly manufactures chipsets and can better optimize system software. However, some foreign media reports indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 + are way better in terms of battery life if using the Opteron 845.

According to a report from Strategy Analytics (from Yonhap News), the Samsung Galaxy S9’s battery life ranks sixth. The phone lasted 26 hours and 52 minutes in the test, far behind other mobile phones. For example, last year’s LG G6 beat the Galaxy S9 in 32 hours and 35 minutes. AnAndTech has found similar results. When using Wi-Fi to browse the web, S9’s Snapdragon version lasted for 10.48 hours, while the Exynos version lasted 6.80 hours.

This simply means the Samsung Galaxy S9 provides quite different battery performance in various markets. On the one hand, the Exynos variant looks better when it comes to the overall performance. But on the other hand, it yields the Snapdragon version a lot. Hopefully, Samsung’s future updates can narrow the gap.
