Honor 9X To Sport Kirin 810, Huawei’s Second 7nm Chip

Today, Honor officially confirmed that the Honor 9X will be equipped with the Kirin 810 processor. The company also pointed out that there are only four smartphone flagship 7nm chips in the world. The Kirin 810 is one of them (the other three are the Kirin 980, Snapdragon 855, and Apple A12).

Huawei is the only manufacturer that is currently offering two 7nm process SoCs. Moreover, one of them has been designed for flagship products, while the 810 will appear on mid-range devices mainly. We can even say this chip will help Huawei to bring all the goodies of the 7nm process to larger masses.

The 810 uses TSMC’s 7nm process node, which is 50% higher than the Samsung 8nm process transistor density and 64% higher than the 10nm process. The overall energy efficiency is 28% higher than the 10nm process.

Our protagonist adopts the new self-developed Huawei DaVinci architecture NPU. The AI ​​runs up to 32,280 points, exceeding the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon 730.

Apart from this, the Kirin 810 uses the flagship A76 big core. It consists of two high-performance large core (Cortex A76) + six energy-efficient small core combination (Cortex A55). The CPU is clocked at 2.27GHz. And it also integrates the hexa-core Mali-G52 GPU.

 As for the rest of the features, the chip comes with Huawei HiAI 2.0 technology, AI video, AI games and AI US audio, a flagship ISP image processor, and so on. It supports dual card dual standby (dual VoLTE) with Kirin Gaming+ technology.

All the aforementioned features make the Kirin 810 operate as a flagship SoC.

By the way, the first phone packed with this chip is the Huawei Nova 5.

Based on the current leaks and rumors, the Honor 9X will support GPU Turbo 3.0 and sport a front 32MP lifting lens, a rear 48MP AI camera, and a side fingerprint recognition. The system of the Honor 9X supports the Ark compiler, the EROFS super file system, and it will be equipped with the new EMUI 9.1 system, undoubtedly.
