IDC Released Chinese Smartphones Market 2017 Report

Today, IDC released a report concerning the Chinese smartphones market in 2017. Though the top 5 manufacturers are familiar to us, there were many changes. Because of a decreased total shipments, the market shares of many manufacturers changed. But not all of them failed.

Chinese Smartphones Market

The first position still belongs to Huawei. It has shipped over 90.9 million units, which is an 18.6% increase in comparison to previous year’s 76.6 million. Moreover, now it has a 20.4% of market share, which is 4% more than 2016’s 16.4%. So we can state Huawei occupies over 1/5 of the Chinese smartphone market.

The second position is held by OPPO, which shipped 80.5 million units. And though it has some growth too, in 2016, it shipped 78.4 million smartphones. So the difference is not that much. Instead of that, it enlarged the market share achieving 18.1%. So the next 1/5 piece of the pie belongs to OPPO.

VIVO is the third with its 68.6 million sold units. And it has decreased. In 2016, VIVO sold 69.2 million smartphones. So we can state the decreased shipments affected VIVO first.

Not surprisingly, Xiaomi outruns Apple and settled on the fourth position with 55.1 million shipped units. Its market share is not that impressive (12.4%), but the year-over-year change is incredible, 32.6%. None of its competitors showed anything like this. Apple is the fifth with 41.1 million shipped units and a market share of 24.3%.

As we can see, some manufacturers lost, while the rest won. But the most eye-catching result was shown by Xiaomi that could reach the fourth position at the expense of the rest companies. The total decrease is 31%.
