LG G8 ThinQ Released: Supports Vein Recognition Known As Palm ID

In the early morning of February 25, LG held a new product launch conference at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona, officially launching the annual flagship, namely the LG G8 ThinQ. Generally, we are dealing with a great handset with a decent list of specs. But its selling point is the palm unlock support. We have heard of fingerprint recognition, iris recognition, face recognition, but have you ever heard of palm recognition method on smartphones?

The LG G8 ThinQ uses a 6.1-inch OLED FullVision notch screen, with the resolution of 3120 × 1440 and the screen aspect ratio of 19.5:9, while the body dimensions are 151.9 × 71.8 × 8.4mm. In other words, single hand operations can be done without pressure.

One of its biggest highlights is the front 3D TOF lens, which supports 3D face recognition. This is the world’s first front-end TOF lens phone.

Not only that, the LG G8 ThinQ supports vein recognition. This is also the world’s first smartphone to support vein recognition, officially known as ‘Hand ID.’ The principle of this biometric technology is based on the fact that blood flowing in human fingers can absorb light of a specific wavelength, and a specific wavelength of light is used to illuminate a finger to obtain a clear image of the finger vein. If you are not used to the above unlocking method, LG G8 ThinQ also provides a rear fingerprint identification solution.

In terms of the core configuration, the LG G8 ThinQ sports the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform, which is paired with a 6GB memory +128GB storage combination, a front-facing 8MP + TOF lens, a rear 16MP wide angle (F/1.9 aperture, 1.0μm) + 12MP standard lens (F/1.5 aperture, 1.4μm) sensors combination, a battery capacity of 3500mAh, and runs on Android 9 Pie system.

In addition, the LG G8 ThinQ is equipped with ‘Crystal Sound OLED’ full-screen sound technology and a four-channel Hi-Fi DAC to meet the needs of enthusiasts.

Finally, as for the price and release time, LG confirmed that the phone will land in the US market in the next few weeks, the estimated price is between $750 and $800.
