MediaTek Joins Intel to Develop the Next Generation 5G PC Solution
Today, MediaTek issued a statement, saying that it has joined hands with Intel to bring its latest 5G modem to the PC market. Based on the cooperation between the two parties, MediaTek and Intel will deploy 5G solutions in key consumer and business notebook markets. Dell and HP are expected to be the first OEMs to adopt this 5G solution. The first batch of products is expected to be launched in early 2021.
MediaTek’s new 5G PC modem is based on the previously released 5G modem of Helio M70, which is a key part of MediaTek’s first wave of 5G flagship smartphone systems. It is reported that Intel is responsible for the development and manufacture of 5G modems through customized 5G solution specifications, focusing on key deployments in the notebook segment. Intel will also develop and validate platform-level hardware and software integration, including operating system host drivers. They will span Windows, Chrome and Linux devices.
Chen Guanzhou, general manager of MediaTek, said: ‘MediaTek and Intel will work together to develop 5G modems for personal computers as an important part of driving the popularization of 5G, with applications that will span home and mobile platforms. 5G will usher in a new era of personal data computing, this time working with Intel, an industry-leading vendor, to highlight MediaTek’s ability to deliver 5G technology to the global market. Thanks to the partnership, consumers will be able to browse the web, stream and play games faster on their personal computers, and MediaTek will achieve more innovation with 5G.’
In his turn, Gregory Bryant, Intel’s Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Client Computing Group, said: ‘5G is poised to unleash a new level of computing and connectivity that will transform the way we interact with the world. This partnership with MediaTek brings together industry leaders with deep engineering, system integration and connectivity expertise to deliver 5G experiences on the next generation of the world’s best PCs.’
