OnePlus and Xiaomi To Launch First 5G Phones in Europe

Today, two Chinese top smartphone makers issued statements concerning their upcoming 5G-enabled smartphones. But before we start talking about them, you should know today Qualcomm held the Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii and officially launched the Snapdragon 855 mobile platform.

This is Qualcomm’s latest top-of-the-range flagship mobile platform. It is based on the 7nm process and is equipped with the fourth-generation multi-core AI Engine. Compared with the previous Snapdragon 845, the Snapdragon 855 AI performance has been improved a lot. It has significantly improved the performance, artificial intelligence, photography, and network connectivity, especially in the 5G aspect, due to the Snapdragon X50 5G modem.

OnePlus CEO Liu Zuohu attended at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit and announced a product layout in 2019. He said that OnePlus launches only flagship smartphones and they only use the Snapdragon 800 series chips. Thus, the upcoming models of OnePlus will be packed with the Snapdragon 855 for sure.

At the same time, Qualcomm announced that next year OnePlus will cooperate with British EE to enter the UK market. It is worth mentioning that, if there is no accident, according to the naming rules of OnePlus product, the ‘OnePlus 7’ will be the first 5G commercial phone in Europe!

However, today, another big news came our way from Xiaomi. Xiaomi presented introduced the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G version at the China Mobile Partner Conference. The phone is equipped with the newly released Qualcomm’s new generation Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and Snapdragon X50 5G modem, combined with Xiaomi smart antenna switching technology, with a download speed of up to 2Gbps.

According to the official introduction, 5G has higher requirements for antenna design and transmission than 4G. Xiaomi has ան industry-leading position in the research and development of antenna array. As early as 2016, Xiaomi set up a 5G pre-research team to conduct comprehensive and in-depth research on the 5G standard in advance.

At the beginning of 2017, Xiaomi officially launched the design of 5G smartphones. In September 2018, Xiaomi took the lead in opening up 5G signaling and data link connections, laying the foundation for 5G commercial use. Xiaomi will participate in the first batch of 5G pre-commercial city field test launched by China Mobile in the first quarter of 2019, and will also launch the 5G version of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 in Europe, and then provide the Xiaomi commercial terminal supporting China Mobile’s 5G network in the third quarter.
