Qualcomm Announced Snapdragon 632 / 439 / 429

On June 27, Qualcomm released three new mobile SoCs in the N2 showroom of the Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWCS 2018). They are the Snapdragon 632, the Snapdragon 439 and the Snapdragon 429. Let’s get acquainted with their parameters.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 is targeting the mid-range market. The main specification parameters are an octa-core Kryo 250 architecture, at a 1.8GHz clock speed, integrated Adreno 506 GPU, X9 LTE baseband (Cat.7), and downlink up to 300Mbps. It is going to replace the Snapdragon 626.

Qualcomm introduced that, compared to the old model of the Snapdragon 626, the Snapdragon 632 has about 40% increase in CPU performance, about 10% increase in GPU performance, and supports for a single 24MP camera or dual 13MP, and 4K Image shooting, wide-angle shooting, real-time bokeh and other functions.

As for the other two low-end chips, the performance has improved in comparison to the older chips. The Snapdragon 439 uses eight A53 cores, with the highest frequency of 1.95GHz, integrated Adreno 505 GPU, equipped with X6 LTE baseband, and downlink up to 150Mbps. Its sibling, the Snapdragon 429 uses four A53 high-performance cores, with the highest frequency of 1.95GHz, integrated Adreno 504 GPU, and X6 LTE baseband.

Qualcomm said that the Snapdragon 439 and 429 mobile platforms use the FinFET process technology to provide a popular mobile experience for price-sensitive mass-market consumers. With improved performance and energy efficiency, both platforms support AI capabilities for enhanced shooting, voice, and security experience, integrated X6 LTE modem for fast download, smooth video streaming, and web browsing experience.

It is understood that the performance of the Snapdragon 439 is 25% higher than that of the 430 (20% increase in GPU performance), and the Snapdragon 429 also improves the performance of the Snapdragon 425 by 25% (50% increase in GPU performance). The Snapdragon 429 also supports a single 16MP camera or dual 8MP, screen resolution up to 720P+. The Snapdragon 439 supports 1080P+ screen resolution, up to 21MP single or 8MP dual camera.

The first smartphones with these three chips are expected to debut in the second half of this year.
