Samsung Is The Number One Mobile Screen Supplier In The World

According to a report by IHS Markit, Samsung is still in the dominance of the screen market in the first quarter of 2019. The South Korean company sold screens worth $3.4 billion, although the market share fell by 6.6% compared with last year, it still accounts for 40.2% of the total market share.

Among other screen suppliers, JDI ranked second with a market share of 12.3%, which is a big gap with Samsung. BOE has become the biggest winner, and its share has almost doubled, reaching 11.9%. According to IHS’s forecast, BOE will easily surpass JDI in the second quarter of this year and become the second-in-command of the screen market.

IHS Markit’s data has also changed the entire display market picture. According to analysts, Samsung’s main reason for staying ahead is the sale of a large number of OLED panels for non-flagship smartphones. According to past experience, mid-range smartphones are the main users of such displays, and as you guess, they are the most selling products. This year, many companies began to try the fingerprint technology under the screen and put this technology down to the mid-end products. This led to a huge increase in demand for OLED screens.

If we don’t count LCD panels, and just talk about OLED panels, then no one can challenge Samsung’s position. The company sells more than 80% of OLED panels. In this niche, Samsung’s main rivals are China’s BOE and South Korea’s LG. As the sales of Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro rose, BOE’s market share almost doubled.
