Sharp Aquos R2C Announced With Two Notches

On November 15, Sharp officially released a double-notch screen smartphone, which is the first in its type. The ‘water drop’ on the top carries the front camera, and the bangs on the bottom sport the front fingerprint HOME button. It’s called the Sharp Aquos R2C (aka Sharp Aquos R2 Compact). By the way, the world’s first drop screen smartphone was announced by this manufacturer too. But it became popular only after being adopted by other companies.

The Sharp Aquos R2C is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which is paired with a 4GB+64GB storage combination and a 2500mAh battery. There is a rear 22.6-megapixel single-camera, while on the front, we can find an 8-megapixel wide-angle sub-camera supporting optical image stabilization. Moreover, the latter can automatically select the mode suitable for AI shooting scenes, and can be adjusted by ‘AQUOS beauty’. In terms of system, it comes pre-installed with Android Pie.

Compared to the AQUOS R compact, though it comes with a larger screen, this design is more suitable for the user’s palm. The compact body is thinner and smaller, and it weighs 135 grams. It is packed with a 5.2-inch Full HD screen. So users can operate with one hand and one thumb.

For cutting the bangs, every manufacturer has its own ideas. Sharp’s front-facing beauty camera and physical Home button show an unusual screen cutting process with high recognition. In terms of security, the Sharp Aquos R2C uses fingerprint unlocking and face unlocking.

In addition to the dual notch design, the Sharp Aquos R2 Compact features a two-speed 120Hz drive IGZO display, which suppresses afterimages and makes it easy to see clearly moving videos and characters as you scroll through the browser screen.

The tentative length, width, and height of the fuselage are 131x64x9.3mm. On the back, it uses a glass material, while the middle frame is made of metal. The rest of features include Bluetooth 5.0, IP68 waterproof certificate, USB-C, 3.5mm headphone jack, and so on.

The Sharp Aquos R2C will be launched in Japan in mid-January 2019.
