Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium Announced

After the launch of the Sony Xperia XZ2 at the MWC 2018, the manufacturer introduced its higher variant of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium today. It inherits the same Ambient Flow design language as the XZ2, but some of its features are enhanced. The price tag of this beast is not known yet, but we have been informed the phone will go on sale in summer.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium uses a 3D glass on both the front and back. The fingerprint scanner is on the back, while a 5.8-inch 4K HDR screen with a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels, an aspect ratio of 16:9, and an SDR-to-HDR technology is on the front. Thanks to the mentioned features it provides 30% brighter viewing experience than the previous-gen XZ Premium. This handset also uses a metal middle frame, and both sides are covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. In addition, the new machine continues coming with IP65 /and IP68 ratings. Thus, it is dust- and waterproof.

Under the hood, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium carries a Snapdragon 845 chip that is paired with a 6GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 3540mAh battery supporting QC3.0. Moreover, the battery supports wireless charging. It supports plug-in expansion cards and dual-card dual-standby. There are dual speakers on the front, with the latest dynamic vibration system. The XZ2 Premium runs on Android O.

The display of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium is its selling point. It’s 11% larger than the Sony’s previous 4K screen. But the most interesting feature of this handset is considered to be the dual-camera on the back. It’s the first smartphone of the Japanese manufacturer carrying a 4K screen on the front and dual-camera on the back. The latter uses a 19MP sensor that is paired with a 12MP monochrome lens.

The first sensor comes with a sensor size of 1/2.3 inches, an aperture of f/1.8, while the second lens comes with an aperture of f/1.6. Thanks to the built-in Sony AUBE fusion image processor with up to ISO 12800 (video) and 51200 (photo) sensitivity. This ultra-high-sensitivity camera technology allows users to shoot brighter photos with less noise and can achieve a perfect bokeh effect. Plus, it is capable of recording 4K HDR video and a Full HD super slow motion video at 960fps. At last, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium sports a 13MP camera on the front with a 1/3.06 inch sensor size that is capable of providing superior self-shooting in low-light environments.
