Which HTC Classic Phone Would You Like to See Again?

Drew Bamford, head of HTC Creative Labs, wrote on Twitter yesterday, “Which classic HTC phone would you like to see us bring back with today’s technology?” The implication is that the company may launch an HTC classic phone with an internal configuration upgrade. Many HTC fans are hopeful to see the HTC One M7 and One M8.

Though many media representatives began actively discussing this tweet, the most eye-catching (for us) was PhoneArena’s approach. Particularly, this source believes that Motorola’s RAZR’s ‘return’ will allow HTC executives to re-examine the old classic models. After all, HTC’s current smartphone business is not interesting to the customers anymore. As a result, Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and others have already occupied the global smartphone market. Even in the US market, there is no place for HTC to stand.

PhoneArena reported that the emergence of HTC One M8 has brought HTC’s smartphone business to its peak. It can be said that this mobile phone is the most popular device in HTC’s history. Not accidentally, it was the leader of smartphones at that time. However, after the M8, HTC seems to be ‘lost’. The successive strategic mistakes made HTC unable to compete with Apple and Samsung in the United States.

In September 2017, Google acquired half of HTC’s design and research teams for $1.1 billion, including those working on Pixel phones. Until now, HTC’s market share is very small. So ‘re-engraving’ of the classic models may bring benefits to HTC. At least, PhoneArena believes that even if there is no gain, it is not a bad thing to try this with HTC classic phone.
