Xiaomi Redmi Y2 Launched In India For Starting Rs. 9,999

Xiaomi and other brands like to play with the names of their products. We have already known a few cases when a phone launched in other countries launched in India with another title. Today, happened something like that. The manufacturer has been testing a new selfie-focused smartphone for some time in India. As you guess, we are talking about the Xiaomi Redmi Y2. Today, it was out. But no need to take it as a new handset. It’s the same Redmi S2. The Redmi Y2 would be exclusive to Amazon India. The smartphone can be yours for a starting price of Rs. 9,999 (~$149) for the 3GB variant.

The original Redmi S2 and the newly announced Xiaomi Redmi Y2 resemble the Mi 6X. It uses a double-U-shaped antenna design. However, the antenna lines are in the form of dual silver linings instead of a thick band that hugs the edges.

On the other hand, the Redmi Y2 is identical to the Redmi Note 5 in some aspects. Look, the phone comes with a 5.99-inch Full-HD+ display and a Snapdragon 625. Both features can be found on the Redmi Note 5 as well.

On the front, the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 carries a 16MP selfie snapper. This is further aided by AI that will result in better portrait shots and scene recognition. At the launch, Xiaomi also particularly highlighted some specific selfie camera features that include low-light selfies, Auto HDR, AI Portraits, and edge detection as well. A dual camera setup with a 12MP + 5MP sensors combination is on the back. This camera supports PDAF, electronic image stabilization (EIS), and full HD video recording. There is also a 3080mAh battery.

At last, the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 runs on MIUI9.5 based on Android Oreo. The phone will go on sale on June 12. The 3GB RAM + 32GB variant is priced Rs. 9,999, while the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage is priced Rs 12,999.
