Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Vs Huawei P20 Pro Hands-on Review: A Comparison Between New Luxury Beasts

Another of the phablets that we can not stop comparing to the new Xiaomi is Huawei’s latest flagship, a manufacturer that has always stood out for its quality/price ratio, but in this case, has put all the meat on the Grill to launch a device of the highest level. We review the characteristics of both in this comparison. So Let’s check it by facing the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S against the Huawei P20 Pro.

Design

The design can be a key section at the time of choosing, simply for aesthetic reasons, because although the two come with a front screen, as is almost mandatory, Huawei has decided to incorporate the controversial notch iPhone X, while that Xiaomi has kept the most atypical approach of the previous Mix, leaving more space at the bottom. Of course, in both cases, it has a fingerprint reader and USB type C ports, although only in the P20 Pro we will also enjoy water resistance, one of the details that the Mix 2S lacks in relation to other high range.

Dimensions

As we have seen in other comparisons already, the focus of Xiaomi , in any case, is one of those that allow reducing frames in the front is one of those that leave us a better ratio size/screen, although compared with others the P20 Pro it stays relatively close ( 15.09 x 7.49 cm versus 15.5 x 7.39 cm ). The phablet of Huawei loses by little in size, in any case, but it does manage to take the lead in weight ( 191 grams versus 180 grams ) and in thickness ( 8.1 mm versus 7.8 mm ).

screen

Regarding the screen, we find that they are quite close in technical specifications, although they do not end up coinciding: their size is almost the same but that of the P20 Pro is a bit larger ( 5.99 inches versus 6.1 inches ) and although both use a more elongated aspect ratio than usual in their case this trend is a little more pronounced (18: 9 vs. 18.7: 9). This difference in format does not match the number of pixels, although the two move in the range of Full HD ( 2160 x 1080 versus 2240 x 1080 ). The most noticeable difference is probably that in the Huawei phablet we have AMOLED panels.

Performance

In the performance section we have different manufacturers processor (Huawei, as always, use your own) but in both cases are the latest generation and the highest level ( Snapdragon 845 eight-core 2.7 GHz vs. Exynos 9810 eight-core at 2.8 GHz ) and arrive accompanied by 6 GB of RAM. Both are also running Android Oreo, so in the software section, the most important thing is probably which of the two customizations we like the most.

Storage capacity

The advantage would be for the P20 Pro in the storage capacity section, but this time it is not to include micro-SD card slot, which does not either, but because it will arrive in its standard version with nothing less than 128 GB of internal memory, while in the Mi Mix 2S we have the usual 64 GB of the high range.

Cameras

Although the Mi Mix 2S has managed to strain in the top 5 ranking of DxO with a dual camera of 12MP, aperture f / 1.5, pixels of 1.4 um, optical image stabilizer and optical zoom x2, it is difficult to find a phablet with a more spectacular technical specifications than the Huawei P20 Pro in this regard, with a triple camera of 40 MP , aperture f / 1.8 and x3 optical zoom. Its front camera also draws attention, with nothing less than 20MP, while in the phablet of Xiaomi we have a more discreet, 5MP, although with pixels of 1.4 um.

Battery

Real battery, as we always say, can only be compared effectively with data from independent tests carried out in the same conditions, so we will have to wait to draw definitive conclusions, but from the outset the P20 Pro has good letters to come out victorious, with a much higher capacity battery ( 3400mAh versus 4000mAh ) and nothing in its technical specification sheet that should make us expect a much higher consumption.

The final balance of the comparison and price

The Huawei P20 Pro has undoubtedly a few tricks to justify the extra investment, such as arriving with twice the storage capacity and its spectacular camera, although it is true that the Mi Mix 2S has obtained, as we said very good ratings in this section on the part of the experts and the duel is very balanced in the sections of performance and screen. Surely in the decision of many also influence design preferences.

In any case, we expect an important price difference: the Huawei P20 Pro was announced from $1110, while, basing on its price for China (which is just over $493.18, to change) and what it cost its predecessor, it would be surprising that the Mi Mix 2S will cost much more than $615.
